And answering your question:
I am professional interior designer with many years of experience so I have developed my sense space.
Usually I download the series or movies I make screen captures and I am looking for images on the internet.
I fix my eyes in elements with standard dimensions (the heigh of a door or a kitchen worktop, the depth of a bed or a sofa) to deduce the measures of other furniture elements, walls, etc...
It's only a matter of comparissons, deductions and mathematics.
